2010 is very special for skateboarding in China, with lots of events hosted by those big sport brands and competitions going on a more professional and hard-cored track. The term Pro Skater weighed much more than ever before. Skate parks started to burgeon across the country. And of course, parties never stopped. This year has witnessed some ground-breaking happenings, like, Tony Hawk and Shaun White visited China, Woodward China was launched, Converse joined in the battlefield between Nike and Vans. Good news is, those who never gave up can finally make a decent living from skateboarding now. What happened in 2010 was just a beginning. There are much more to come in 2011!

I have introduced SCC last time, there is a video tour I made two days ago when I was in Guangzhou.

Respect for my friend Yan Chengyu to bring the first indoor skatepark to Guangzhou–SCC(Skate China Club). Yan Chengyu founded OVER Skateshop in Beijing many years ago and now is running Shox Skateboards and Distribution in Guangzhou. Skatepark is very important for promoting skateboarding in China, but at the same time, it’s really difficult to run a skatepark than a skate shop. Respect for all the skateparks which are run by skaters like WHB in Beijing, Toy Toys in Shanghai and SCC in Guangzhou.

Switch Plaza was in Shenzhen(near HongKong), it was start to built in 2005 and opened in April, 2006. Switch Plaza be built by Wayout Sporting Goods Company. At that time, I was working at Wayout and in charge of China market — Switch Distribution. Suburban Rails help us designed this park. This is the second concrete skatepark and the second skatepark with a bowl in China(the first one is Shanghai SMP, the largest skatepark all over the world). I really like the bowl in the park, that’s the first time I skate a bowl. We invited Tumyeto team came for our grand opening. During 2006-2008, many U.S. pro team and legend skaters have been there, we also organized many cool skate contests and events like Independent Bowl Party, skate deck art show and guitar night… If Shenzhen on your travel list, Switch Plaza is the place you have to visit.
