Makia & Etnies Spring/Summer 2013

26 February 2013, 17.06 | Posted in Uncategorized | No comments »

Nature has always played a great role for us in Scandinavia. Our life is a mixture of urban lifestyle and countryside spirit and after the long winter, summers are always a reason for celebration. For our second season with Etnies, we wanted to embody this feeling into our collaboration. That is why we invited Don Brown, Natas Kaupas and the rest of the gang over, to experience the rugged but beautiful landscape and to spend a few days camping and skateboarding on the Finnish archipelago. A perfect getaway from the hectic city life, giving us time to reflect on the partnership and what we really wanted to portray. Inspired by the relaxed coastal atmosphere, sunsets and the rugged islands left behind by the ice age, we came up a collection of classic items that work equally well camping, skating or just going about your day. In the end, it’s all about taking some time off the everyday rat race.

About Makia:
Makia was founded in 2001 by a group of friends with an intention to create a line of easily approachable timeless clothing. Designs reflecting values that the nordic people have lived by for ages and the harsh climate influencing them to last, and look good, year after year. Trust, honesty and a no-nonsense attitude where the essential has been stripped down to the bare minimum and functionality plays the key role making them an easy choice to wear, without having to think too much about it.

About etnies:
Established in 1986, etnies is the first skateboarder-owned and operated global action sports footwear and apparel company. etnies not only pushed the envelope by creating the first pro model skate shoe, but it pioneered technological advances and changed the face of skateboard footwear forever. Today, etnies’ vision, led by owner and skateboarder Pierre-André Senizergues, is to remain the leading action sports company committed to creating innovative products that provide the most style, comfort and protection possible. etnies stays true to its roots by sponsoring world class skateboarding, surfing, snowboarding, moto-x, BMX and auto teams and continues its dedication by giving back to each of these communities. Makia and etnies proudly partner up to produce a quality line of clothing and shoes. The partnership between Makia and Etnies
represents the passion one has to have to push through rain, wind and snow during dark cold winter months, just to go skating.

The product range is a full setup of what you need on your journey. From water repellent high-top shoes to the Raglan parka jacket,
the line is based on subtle grayscale tones that draw inspiration from old black and white pictures as well as the nordic winters.
This reflects the “life-after-skate” feeling that the whole partnership is based on. Classic timeless items with small details, cuts and
patterns that take inspiration from old Black & White photo’s as well as the harsh Nordic winters. All products are designed to keep you warm,
dry and classy for a trip to the skatepark and back. So go ahead – put your kids to bed, kiss your old lady goodnight and go out skateboarding
just for the hell of it. Go to makiaclothing.com for the video and more info about the partnership: http://www.makiaclothing.com/?p=5800
