Los Angeles, CA: The biggest contest in skateboarding history – the Street League DC Pro Tour Fueled by Monster Energy Championship – comes to the Prudential Center in Newark, NJ on August 28th. This historical winner-takes-all Championship airs live on ESPN2 at 5PMET and will feature the top ten Street League pros battling it out for the highest 1st place prize purse in skateboarding history at $200,000 and title as Street League Champion.

Created by Rob Dyrdek, 20-year professional skateboarder and entrepreneur, the Street League Championship adds unprecedented stakes to the 2011 series. As championship qualifiers, each one of the top ten pros has a chance to take the top spot and be crowned champion in the winner-takes-all format. These top contenders include Mike Mo Capaldi, Tommy Sandoval, Mikey Taylor, Billy Marks, Paul Rodriguez, Shane O’Neill, Chaz Ortiz, Ryan Sheckler, Chris Cole, and Nyjah Huston.

Winning on August 28th won’t be an easy task; the series grand finale is following Nyjah Huston’s highly publicized three-peat performance from the first three stops of the tour. Huston is not only Street League’s youngest pro but he may be the rising star of action sports; never finishing worse than 3rd place in the league and raking in total contest earnings estimated at nearly $800,000. If the 16 year-old phenom wins the Street League championship, he will be the first professional street skater ever to earn more than $1MM in contest earnings alone.

“We wanted to create the “Super-Bowl” of skateboarding by adding the winner-takes-all championship to the series,” says Dyrdek. “Despite Nyjah’s historical winning streak, on August 28th whoever skates the best when it matters most will be named Street League champion. The stakes have never been higher.”

Nyjah added, “Winning the first three stops of Street league has been a big accomplishment in my career. The championship is the biggest event of the season though, so the pressure is on! I think Chris Cole is going to give me a run for the money. Either way, we’ll put on a good show for the fans.”

Clearly, the question on everyone’s mind is if young Nyjah Huston can keep his winning streak going for the most important event of the series – the Street League Championship, or will one of the other pros step up and win the most important contest of the year? Chris Cole, who is currently ranked 2nd headed into New Jersey, had a chance to take the win over Huston on his final trick in Stop Two in Kansas City but came up short. Ryan Sheckler, who is currently ranked 3rd behind Cole, was battling Huston trick-for-trick in Stop 3 until Huston finally edged him out in the final attempts in the big section. On August 28th, we’ll see if these two pros or any other Street League star can beat the 16-year old phenomenon.

Tribe Called Quest Documentary

The Tribe Called Quest film I worked on “Beats Rhymes and Life” released the official website today. It comes out in theaters this summer. To say Michael Rapaport put his heart, blood, sweat, and tears into this film is an understatement. It’s one of the most important documentations of a Hip Hop group to date. I know that statement is coming from a slightly biased point of view but its the honest truth. Peep the site, trailer, and most important, go to the movies!

One Life one Chance

07 February 2011, 22.13 | Posted in Uncategorized | No comments »

NYC Hardcore was in full effect last night at the Roxy in LA. My good friend Toby Morse, lead singer of the band H2O has been out talking to schools about the positivity that Straight Edge has given him in his life. He is going to schools to talk to kids and share his experiences on life, music and P.M.A. (positive mental attitude). Last nights fundraiser put on by the good people at Famous Stars & Straps drew a sold out crowd filled with kids form all over the country. No barricade, all ages, this shit was bananas! Special guests included Travis Barker doing the encore with H2O, Michael Rapaport (who does a guest spot on the album), Matt Skiba from Alkaline Trio and many more. Peep the photos from below, i took them with my iPhone so they came out a little blurry. Peep the show pics at the Famous blog.
