Spec Boogie is just one of my favorite emcees from Brooklyn. I’m saying, it’s all about reppin where you are from, and to put the title “Bed-Stuy” on it; you know it’s got to be official from the jump. It was only four weeks ago when we started the Hoods to Woods program at Mountain Creek. Since then every Saturday a group of excited Teens from Brooklyn, Harlem and the Bronx were ready to take on something new and challenging. In just two sessions they picked it up! It’s amazing to see the progression from everyone. I have learned so much every weekend with Hoods to Woods Foundation, and I look forward to the sailing, camping, indoor rock climbing program this summer!

The 100 plus days of shredding lifestyle is no longer a dream. Our good friends across the pond in the UK have shown us what dry slope does for the sport, And Snowflex is going to change the game in urban centers. I went down to Liberty Snowflex Virginia in August and rode in 90 degree weather with the Humanity Snowboards team.  Next time I do that, I’ll take advice from Matt Lindenmuth and rock some board shorts instead of snowpants! The surface is so dope because you can make turns on it and it reacts to your edges just like snow.  The other cool thing about Snowflex is that it has four inches of padding so bailing isn’t that bad. If you’re from the ice coast, you’re going to love that! I’m going to push to get a Snowflex hill in Brooklyn someday.

Damn the Northeast has been getting some decent snowfall these days! When it dumps I have to hit Ft Greene with BLK OPS crew! Kind of bugged out to think that many years ago the park was a stomping ground for many beat downs, street organizations and a notorious Brooklyn stick up kid by the name of Kelvin Martin aka “50 Cent” when alive, 50 held up folks at gun point and was said that he was responsible for at least 30 homicides. Later on the rapper from Queens, Curtis Jackson aka “fiddy” would borrow his name. Every time I shred in that park I think about how much the hood has changed and I’m very grateful that I survived that era. Out of all the crazy things I’ve experienced on the streets of New York, I never thought I’d be Snowboarding in the hood, or even taking teens from my hood to the mountain. What I lived through is what motivates me to want to give back with Hoods to Woods. Each time I step on a board I count my blessings. REAL TALK
