Music to Shred to: Elmatic – Elzhi

15 June 2011, 21.44 | Posted in Uncategorized | 1 comment »

I never thought that anyone could pull off a remix project from the Nas’s classic album “Illmatic”  until now. Hailing from Detroit is Elzhi, a former member of the hip hop group Slum Village which was heavy produced by Jay Dilla. Elzhi is one of those emcees that has crazy word play and hits hard with a multiple syllable rhyme pattern that is woven into some heavy flow. I got the download and played it from beginning to end. Every track was a spin off, but nothing lyrically was recycled from Nas’s original project. This EP is so dope even Mr. Jones gave Elzhi the nod and blessings on the project. backed by the live band “Will Sessons” Elzhi takes us back to revisit a hip hop classic but laced with new flows over it. This joint is so dope, Stokley Williams of “Mint Condition” is rocking on this one.

Nike Chosen crew video contest

I don’t know about you but I’m charged watching this Nike promo! Already the streets are buzzing and everyone on my team is serious about filming next winter. It would be rad to get the Hoods to Woods Foundation and Harold Hunter Foundation kids on this. Those of us that are lucky will get a head start and head to South America for some pow shots. I think this calls for a Mt Baker road gap session, this time I can’t back down!
