Pacific Drive “Field – Ops”

To say Riley’s film making career is on a fast track is a gross understatement. The 21 year old boasts film projects and credits with brands such as Quiksilver, RVCA, Billabong Kustom, VZ, and Stab Magazine just to name a few. His most notable in my books, is this last October release of NOW, an Analog Clothing Moving Picture Project featuring Australia’s newest aerial export, Chippa Wilson.

This latest SHOWREEL is summed up by Riley, “At 21, I’ve been so fortunate to see so many amazing things. It was overwhelming trying to cull it down to 2:45. Massive thank you to all of the models, surfers, skaters, musicians, stand ins, places and most importantly LIGHT. Without you my work wouldn’t be possible”. As for my summary, “Bring on Summer!”

Another sad day for surfing as news rushes in around the death of big wave legend Sion Milosky. Hawaiian big wave charger Sion Milosky is reported to have drowned today, surfing Maverick’s in California. He is the second Hawaiian big-wave surfer to drown at Maverick’s, after the legendary Mark Foo died surfing the wave in 1994. Just over a year ago, Sion become known around the world for catching the biggest wave ever paddled into. Although in his mid 30s, Sion only came to prominence in the last few years, when water photographer Daniel Russo hooked up with him in some incredible barrels at Pipeline that were seen in surf mags around the world. #mce_temp_url#

From the man that redefined surf videos, immortalized icons, and developed the free surf standard of high performance surfing we see today. These brushed leather beauties from Taylor Steele resemble a weathered suitcase to which I would like to think inspired the name “Sipping Jetstreams”, the next movement in Steele’s quest for surf adventure. Laser-etched “Jetstream” logo detail Steele’s Air Force 1 Bespoke near the heel and on the lace tabs. I am reminded of the thoughtful gift from Taylor that travels with me throughout my journeys, an embossed leather passport case with the same detail, given to friends who worked on the first “Sipping” book/film project.
