After a mild mishap in Chicago we finally arrived in Jackson, Wyoming. A quick stop at the Boardroom, Jackson’s finest local skate/snowboard shop, and we were off to the Inn at Jackson Hole in the Teton Village where we would be spending the next 5 days riding the best mountain in North America!
We took a walk over to see Zahan at the marketing dept. to pick up our lift tickets. Than grubbed food at the Mangy Moose and threw back some drinks with the locals while Kinetix, local Denver band, rocked the house til 3am. The vibe was peaking since it was dumping outside!
We actually had met Travis Rice in NYC at his Asymbol gallery opening at Milk Studios. Lucky for us he was in Jackson and he made a phone call & hooked up the early tram the next morning and it was on like donkey kong! Travis, Evan Mack, Pat Moore & Danny Zapalac met us at 8am the next morning with 17 inches of fresh snow on the ground. It was insane! Pillow Country! Pillow’s everywhere! We were making turns chest deep, thrashin’ thru the trees and even closed our day with a backcountry hike that led to some amazing terrain.
Two hours before sunset we met up with Bjorn Leines & family at Travis & Evan’s house just south of town. Had a beer and played some pool at the crib while Bjorn, Pat & Travis handled a few interviews in the studio & than drove 20 miles, parked the trucks & pulled out all 6 snowmobiles for a 10-mile sled ride to Granite Hot Springs. Along the way we saw elk, moose, deer & bighorn sheep. This natural hot spring was built in the 1930’s and is nestled in the Gros Ventre Mountains. This place is fu#%’n amazing! After some snacks & booze we packed up and blazed back to the trucks as the sun fell behind the Tetons.
The next few days we shredded the mountain, did more hiking & visited the smoke shacks & caves, and even participated in some swing dancing at the famous Wort Hotel. The final night we met back up with Travis, Pat, Evan, Danny & Mike Parillo for a farewell dinner. The night ended with a few games of pool at the Cowboy Bar, which is the coolest place ever! Saddles line the bar and they have a taxadermic grizzly bear that someone had killed with their bare hands in 1950! For real.
Thanks to Claire Johnson at Asymbol Gallery for letting us skate her ramp, Zahan at Jackson Hole & Travis Rice & crew for making this trip so epic! The NYC crew is coming back next year….sure hope it dumps again!
