Tim Snyder Interview

11 March 2015, 23.32 | Posted in Skateboarding | No comments »

Tim Snyder is extremely talented, driven and has surrounded himself around the amazing individuals who represent Magic Bullet Skateboards. Mark Eyestone set the tone of authentic street skateboarding in Fredericksburg, VA and opened Magic Bullet in 2002. Brandon Bonner and the Magic Bullet homies are reppin’ hard in the streets on the daily and Tim Snyder is there every step of the way with his camera in hand. The first time he visited the NYC Natural Koncept headquarters I was captivated by his passion, enthusiasm and excitement for hittin’ the spots and documenting skateboarding.

I sat down with Tim to find out more about his life and interest in photography.

What city did you grow up in?
I grew up in Woodbridge, Virginia until I moved to Fredericksburg, VA when I was around 12 years old. Been living around these parts ever since.

When did you start skating?
I skated when I was real young with my older brother Chris.
Kickflips in the street and riding down driveways but I didn’t really get INTO it until I moved to Fredericksburg.

First board?
I seriously remember this perfectly because my older brother said he knew exactly what I needed to be riding. It was a Powell deck (with the angel boy graphic), Grind King trucks, shop wheels and BONES bearings. I still only ride REDS.

First camera?
My first camera was a Olympus E-410 my mom had got for me when I turned 16.
Who inspired you to shoot flicks?
Well back then my boy Julian Bast was doing all the filming for us on his GL2, but nobody we knew took skate photos. I started bringing my camera to the park and shooting but still wondered how skate mags made photos look the way they do. I didn’t even know off camera flash existed. I wasn’t  particular influenced by photographers until later.

When did you link up with the Magic Bullet crew?
Mark Eyestone is a killer, best steeze in the game. And an amazing artist too.
how did that all start? Just hanging at the shop and meeting all the skate rats?
Yeah, Mark has been a serious role model of sorts for all the young shredders in town since before I even moved to Fredericksburg and we all called Magic Bullet “FRED SKATES” still. He’s definitely influenced my skating, my photos, and tons of other local artists I know. But your completely right about the steeze, and his switch game has came UP since you’ve seen him last. And yeah thats basically how anyone around here gets to know anyone, chilling at the shop, skating the park, and some out of town skate trips here and there.
Besides Boner, tell me the skaters you shoot with the most?
Ethan Edwards, Austin Shamy, Randy Ruczynski
Where have  you guys been skating / shooting?
VA or all over the east coast?
We skate Fredericksburg a lot. But this past year we made it up to NYC a few times, Durham and all around North Carolina, Richmond and up to Massachusetts.
Where was that photo taken of Bonestalone’s train ollie for his check out in Transworld Skateboarding Magazine?
That was shot back behind this not so great neighborhood near my apartment. Brandon told me they had these train cars parked there for awhile and he wanted to check it out. On a side note, I broke a little lever on my D3 viewfinder that day that closes the curtain. Anyone that shoots with a D3 knows what I’m talking about. Anyways, since that day the curtain has been swinging, blocking my viewfinder, but it’s AIGHT.

Boner was telling me that you have mad skills with woodworking, etc. Tell us about it..
Oh jeez. I don’t know about mad skills at all, but I dabbled a bit. Made a few coffee tables n shit..
Shout outs?
Definitely wanna give a shout out to my MOM, Corinne Marghella, Harvey Oaks, BONER, my cat Frenchie, Natural Koncept, Magic Bullet Skateboards, and all the homies who have been supporting me these past few years. MUCH LOVE

Brandon “Boner” Bonner Interview

08 October 2013, 01.08 | Posted in Skateboarding | No comments »

On his license, a medical marijuana card or even a police report his name would appear as Brandon Bonner. The skateboard industry knows him as Boner and he’s been shredding every handrail, gap, ledge and transition from Fredericksburg to Denver to Las Vegas to Los Angeles to Mexico City with passion that Lizard King would back, no doubt.

What’s the best thing about living in Fredericksburg?

I would say that the best part about living in the town of Fredericksburg is that you have a lot of adventuring to do there are a lot of ins and outs about this joint

You just had your truck painted. What color did you go with?

I had my old whip painted Matt black all stealthy like n shit bumping them splines all day

How was Mexico City? Was that your first time out of the country?

The Mexico tour with natural koncepts was an amazing experience I was very great full to see all the beautiful spots that the locals had to offer to us such amazing kids out there just ripping there hearts out! Gotta love it!

We were able to skate Miami together on a filming mission last December. Tell us about the trip. The backyard pool, etc. That was so rad skating with Danny, Paul & Koki.

The Mia get away was amazing just to get away from the nasty winter that the good old town had coming for us and just meeting amazingly talented skateboarders from all around the world and to have them be as stoked  to shred with them was sick deffenitly got a lot of homies I met up with there. And the gnarly outdoor hotel pool we got to shred was so dope we deffenitly seabed the hell out of that thing!

Tell us about Magic Bullet. It’s definitely one of the corest shops in the entire east coast.

Magic bullet is a really good locally provided shop that will for sure still be selling boards to the community for many more years to come witch in fact this last month was there 11 year anniversary so shot outs to mark Eyestone for keeping it real all these years!!

That Canadian Embassy ollie hit national news. How was that having the network drive from DC to Fredericksburg to interview you?

The interview at the local skate park that hit international was a little rediculous but very well out together everyone that was at brooks deffenitly seemed a little taken by it haha but very professional !

The NK video is dropping Spring 2014. I’ve seen your footage from a few of the last tours. How are you feeling about this part? You’re first NK part was off the hook!

I feel like my skills and diversity of my tricks might have changed a bit but I hope that I’m still bringing the pain enough to keep the Viewers as hyped as I will be about it!!
