Here’s a Little Video Edit from the Big Apple, and more visual stimulation can be found in the latest issue of The Skateboard Mag. Filmed & edited by Ryan Dearth. Directed by Kelly D. Williams. HAZARDOUS MATERIAL

Something frightening lurks in a dark attic of Seattle in the form of a newsprint zine known by the name Hazmat. It’s pages will leave your fingers black and your heart blacker. A homie [who we'll call Harrison] is the appalling proprietor of this punkrock propaganda, and I suggest you do yourself a favor and buy a shirt, find a copy of the zine, and ominously laugh at anyone who insists print media is dead. They even have a blog in case you agree.

Déjà vu: Motel de Founex

CURE-MOTEL-FOUNEXThis recent Radcollector post of les ruines du Motel de Founex reminded me of this. One of my favorite individuals (yes, still) gets photographed by Rich Bellia during a stay at the “Motel de Fou”. I deeply apologize for the randomness of this post, however I will not apologize for admitting to my lasting affinity for Robert Smith or the Cure. Adieu.

21 November 2011, 22.33 | Posted in Art & Design, Culture, Interviews, Music, Uncategorized | Comments Off

A while ago I hosted a screening for the film An Island, a film by Vincent Moon about the amazing band Efterklang. This was definitely more than a music/video project, it’s an inspiring look at how important sound is to regional cultures. They are now releasing a limited edition DVD/EP designed by Hvass&Hannibal featuring the photography of Antje Taiga Jandrig and a custom-made cover printed by Stumptown Printers in Portland, Oregon.

The DVD release is limited to 5000 copies and they are all individually numbered. The cover holds 5 postcards and a 35 page booklet with lots of photos and background info written by Efterklang. When ordering the DVD you get the new EFTERKLANG EP ‘Live at Roskilde Festival 2010′ as a bonus! An Island is also available digitally after the Pay-What-You-Want model. Available via anisland.cc. Scroll down for more images.

Mike Watt: Dos y Dos

I think it’s been nearly 15 years since Dos released their last record, so when Mike Watt mentioned he got together with Kira Roessler (the other half of the dueling thunderspiel delight) to release a spanking-new Dos album, I was ma-effing ecstatic. I don’t [shouldn’t] need to explain who Mike Watt or Kira Roessler are, just take a gander at their résumé of founding and foreman positions in quintessential bands like Minutemen, fIREHOSE, Black Flag, The Stooges, etc. Just like the celebrity-endorsed salad dressings and condiments in the supermarket, you better believe that if Mr. Watt puts his name on something, it’s worth putting on the platter. This album, along with some of Mike’s solo stuff, is available through Clenched Wrench Records. Easy Dos it.

GWAR For Altamont 2011

gwar-for-altamont_patrick-odellgwar-for-altamont_epicly-laterdWhat’s the raddest project I’ve worked on this year so far? Probably the GWAR For Altamont collaboration that we will be releasing this Fall. It comes on the heels of the Pushead for Altamont series we did, so needless to say… it’s been a gory season. Photographs by Patrick O’Dell, Epicly Later’d. I will share more info on this mayhem soon…
