Being part of a passionate movement.

01 April 2014, 01.12 | Posted in skateboard | 1 comment »

Most skateboarders, surfers and snowboarders that I am friends with are extremely passionate and involved in their chosen discipline. Not only are they involved on the board but they are part of the fabric that embodies all aspects of supporting and embracing the longevity of what they are so passionate about. When a member of the community is no longer with us, we as a group, feel a void and replace that void in our own unique and special way. It’s never hard to forget but its always best to make sure others remember, and that others are introduced to what that person achieved for experience to be passed on.

With all this said I am writing about my friend Harold Hunter who so many in the skateboard community knew and loved. I work as a volunteer for the Harold Hunter Foundation and also help promote the organization 24/7. The foundation is a great cause and means a lot to me and my friends he left behind. We host several events a year to help bring awareness to and support for our main goal, which is keeping Harold’s name and legacy alive while sending under-privileged skaters like Harold to amazing skateboard facilities; such opportunities that would have brought Harold through. This week will be my friends’ would-be 40th birthday and we as the skateboard community will be celebrating this joyful event! Friends and colleagues will get together and share memories through photography, video and intimate stories. Please join us in our mission for our friend, Harold Hunter.

If you can’t be there please share your memories of Harold with us. We also have a great way for you to be a part in helping the HHF with so many amazing tools like the power of the skateboard! The HHF has created a great way to support and be a part of what we all love and practice.

Kiehl’s will be opening its first Brooklyn store this winter on Montague Street in Brooklyn Heights, and is partnering with a local skate park to offer free lessons to people in the community. With media and families already planning on attending the event, we will add the “cool” factor by inviting influencers who play in the cool, hip skater world of NYC to draw their followings and friends, creating buzz and excitement surrounding the opening event. The influencers will be treated to product, and encouraged to post to social media about the opening and local skate park partnership.

Great customer service is nearly impossible to find these days on the old world wide web however these guys are the exception to the norm. SaltCityOptics not only kills it with the customer service but also has an amazing curated selection of top brands and styles to select from in the eyewear industry. They have a fantastic in-house optometrist who works with you while you are online making your purchase and the prescription lens options are spot on. I went with some “By RetroSuperFuture” Frames and transition RX lens and I am stoked on my selection. After fulfilling my order they kept me up to par as to when I would be able to sport these dapper scripts. Thank you SaltCityOptics for making me cooler than I perceive myself!
