SHUT SKATES CELEBRATES RUSS & DAUGHTERS 100 YEARS WITH COMMEMORATIVE LIMITED EDITION SKATEBOARD DECK!!!
SHUT Skates is proud to release the “whitefish”, a limited edition skateboard collaboration with Russ & Daughters to celebrate their 100th anniversary. As neighbors in Manhattan’s culturally rich and storied Lower East Side, the project was a natural follow-up to other successful local skateboard collaborations.

“I love the way this project marries two iconic Heritage Brands from New York City” says Michael Cohen, SHUT’s Vice President of Operations. “It’s really great for the neighborhood too – we have a tight little community here on the Lower East Side.”

Josh Russ Tupper has been riding a SHUT board for years, so when we proposed the idea of a collaboration deck for Russ and Daughters anniversary, he said “I love the idea of collaborating with one of the original NYC skate brands that is staying current while the landscape of the city is changing so drastically.”

Purveyors of the highest quality smoked fish, caviar, and specialty foods, Russ & Daughters is New York’s premier appetizing shop. Since 1914, this landmark New York institution has been continuously owned and operated by four generations of the Russ family. In the same spot on East Houston Street, and run by the same family, for 100 years, Russ & Daughters continues to provide the tastes and traditions of a true New York experience.

SHUT is the legendary original New York City Skateboard company, and the archetype of New York City Skateboarding. With a heritage dating back to 1986, SHUT represents true New York City skateboard culture and East Coast solidarity. SHUT is dedicated to the history and future of skateboarding, and focuses on innovative deck shapes and sizes to make sure that style and fun take priority over trends. All SHUT Skateboards are strictly MADE IN THE USA of the highest quality materials available. SHUT Skateboards are available at better skateboard shops worldwide, as well as SHUT’s flagship boutique at 158 Orchard Street in Manhattan’s Lower East Side.

G-SHOCK PROFILES: SHUT NYC- FRANK151. Embodying the rugged appeal of skateboarding and skate parks all across New York and the world, the G-Shock GD400 model definitely wasn’t designed for fragile activities or dainty hands.
Created for skateboarders who often get thrown off their boards, and with a face-guard literally inspired by skate rails, it’s a durable alternative to cracked iPhone screens and fancy timepieces that can’t stand the test of the streets.
Poised to highlight these very inspirations for G-Shock Volume 3, we thought it best to get to the roots of New York City skateboarding, and so we reached out to the team at SHUT NYC—the city’s first skate brand launching in 1986—to set the record straight.
Sitting down at their Orchard Street store, we caught up with owners Rodney Smith, Michael Cohen, and Adam Schatz, plus head designer Eli Morgan Gesner, to talk roots, nostalgia, and where the culture is headed next.
