KR3W Room Keys at Fairmont Newport Beach

kr3w room key
We’ve all seen some innovative trade show swag (anyone piss on Orisue?), but I’ve got to give it up to KR3W for this one. KR3W branded room keys at the Fairmont Newport Beach. No choice but to carry the damn thing. Respect.

And yes I know they had these at the Hyatt January as well.. but this is Fairmont! Canadians know. (Chateau Laurier, Chateau Frontenac, Jasper Park Hotel, Whistler, Tremblant, etc…!)

The Standard Downtown LA Review

The Standard Downtown LA Review

This past weekend, Vans put me up at the The Standard’s Downtown LA locale. Upon arrival, I was hooked up with the 590 sq. ft. corner room, dubbed the Humongous. And humongous it was. Platform king bed, massive shower, looong work desk, etc. The room was also outfitted with free WiFi, a big plus in my world. And yes, everything was well-designed, comfortable and clean.

There’s only one word to describe the bathroom: epic. Fully tiled with an open shower, separate wash closet, basin sink, Kiss My Face organic bath products and windows everywhere. Wow.

It’s all in the details. The Standard boasts an extremely well-curated mini-bar with all your favorite drinks, snacks and other goods, including The Standard-branded swim trunks and flip flops (more on that in a second). My man Benjamin now has his Boxed Water available there as well. Much respect.

The rooftop bar/pool is amazing (if you forgot your pool kit, there’s one in the room). It’s a very popular nightlife spot in LA – with Friday and Saturday being near impossible to get in – but as a guest of the hotel you can skip the line +1 with no issues. The view up there is unreal and the atmosphere is killer. Recommended.

Many thanks to Vans! The OTW launch was stellar. Check HS for more on that.

The Standard New York – Hotel Review

The Standard New York – Hotel Review

I recently had the pleasure of staying 3 nights at The Standard hotel’s NY location. Perched above The Highline Park in Manhattan’s “cool if you have money but no taste slash drive a Ferrari” Meatpacking District (as evident by the Ed Hardy store across the way), The Standard boasts magnificent, sweeping views of the city through floor to ceiling windows. It’s a nice place.

I was lucky enough to enjoy a King Deluxe room. Described by some friends of mine as “a room designed specifically for after-party orgies” the open concept bathing area was a definite highlight for late night drunken bath/Magnolia Bakery cupcake eating sessions (hey, it was my birthday!) The selection of magazines (readable), bed (comfortable), TV (with real channels), free WiFi (which you’d think would be a no brainer in this day and age, but is often not) and bath products (Kiss My Face organic) were all appreciated on a rainy weekend.

Speaking of rain (monsoon?), the “free to try” umbrella was also much appreciated – while it lasted. These winds were no joke.

Oh and did I mention the view (looking out at Jersey here from the 15th floor)? Highly recommended.
