rondo

Growing up in New England, if you’re raised properly, you become a few important things when you grow up, and one of those things is a Boston Celtics fan. This evening, the C’s have a great opportunity in front of them, and the gentleman pictured above has been instrumental in making that opportunity come about. Rajon Rondo’s hustle and ability to keep his head in the game have the Celtics on the verge of doing big things in the next few weeks. Click the photo above or right here to view a full length interview with #9 via the Boston Celtics YouTube page.

Throughout history, there have consistently been cases of talented musicians whose lives ended far before what many people like to call “their prime”. Ian Curtis, unfortunately, joined this category of legends twenty years ago today on May 18, 1980. If you know Joy Division, then today is a day that you can listen to them with even more of a purpose than usual. If you don’t know Joy Division, then today is a perfect day to start listening.

“SLACKTARDS” by Identity of Portsmouth, NH

One of the first retailers that we ever worked with back in 2006 was Identity of Portsmouth, NH. Chris Rice and Matt Jageman have been strong advocates for our brand since before the first production run even shipped. Over the past four years, they have built a strong base of skateboarders who support their shop, which is headed up by our favorite skateboarder, Matty Johnson.

Clearly, from the above video, Identity has the support of some heavy hitters that have been around for a good while. More impressive than that, though, is the new generation of Identity skateboarders that no one has really even heard of yet. The best part of “Slacktards”, however,  is the appearances by Will Jackson and Mike Duffy and the editing work by Noel Gutierrez, who come down from NH every week with Matty Johnson and join us for the late night session known as “Casual Friday”.

The Early Birds

pawtucket.5.2

In Season 5 of HBO’s “The Wire”, Marlo Stanfield shows up at the apartment of Young Michael Lee in the wee hours of the morning. When Michael answers the door, he stretches, yawns and says, “Damn.” Without any sympathy, Marlo’s reply is “Early bird get that worm.”

Yesterday, we received a series of calls from friends to meet up at the Pawtucket, Ri park at 8:30 am. As most people know, skateboarding does not start until after 12 noon in most parts of the world. So… it’s certainly a good look to meet up with friends and share an entire park with only people that you know well and like for 3 hours or so. Pictured above are Grandison Taber (along with the Curt Schilling-esque “Red Badge Of Courage” that he received), Rob Pontes, Dr. Paul and Matt Kasisky. Derek Rooney and his friend Bo from Georgia didn’t stop skating long enough for a snapshot.

Skateboarding in the early morning is a gift that everyone should give their friends more often. Thanks, early birds. See you next Sunday morning.
