Cow Bells and Whistles!!!

I had a close friend who used to live down the hall from me when i lived on the lower east side in Vancouver in a place called bad manors.it was a very interesting place to say the least.I had the store front studio with my own bathroom but everyone else in the building had to share a bathroom. Now the whole place was comprised of Ex drug addicts, drug addicts or artists due to it’s low rent.I lived in the front and my buddy Shane had the end unit. There was also a pay phone right outside my door which was cool cause i knew the number so people could call me on it.The problem was everyone in the building knew it too.I don’t know how many times i heard that thing ring! I would always come home to Passed out junkies in the halls, angry crazy people yelling at themselves or their invisible friends.All n all it was an experience.Now Shane was an art student who was pretty much a genius and savant at the same time.He always had some crazy project he was doing but the one that blew me away the most is when he rewired an old pinball machine. Instead of hearing bells and rings he put an 808 drum machine inside instead! it was insane you could play a game of pinball and also create a beat at the same time!! GENIUS right? I haven’t heard from Shane in a very long time but I’m sure he is mapping out a career some how in the art world and now every time I see a pinball machine I think about drums and cowbells…
