IPod Beats Shaun White at the Olympics

SHAUN IPOD 540x301 IPod Beats Shaun White at the Olympics
Spoiler alert: that’s Shaun White giving Iouri Podladtchikov the fakest smile in the world as he concedes his Olympic halfpipe domination by finally losing to the Swiss shredder in what will be considered by none to have been an exciting Olympic finale. Not only did White not win, he didn’t even medal, giving up 2nd and 3rd to Japanese riders Ayumo Hirano and Taku Hiraoka respectively. Danny Davis looked strong as hell but had some trouble in the flats while Greg Bretz’ run never quite came together. At least we have a new champ to antagonize and no Olympics to distract us for four more years.

With buttery style that stood out in stark contrast to the spin heavy field, Danny Davis won his first ever X Games gold last night. In a word (or two) it was all about the switch method. Rounding out the all-American podium were Louie Vito and Greg Bretz. Shaun, they comin for ya! Check out Hondo’s interviews with all three riders only on Transworld.

Apparently Shaun White is Human

PR DewTourSuperPipe 540x360 Apparently Shaun White is Human
Here’s something you don’t see very often – Shaun White on the second tier of a halfpipe event podium. To the shock of most, and certainly the dismay of his Whiteness, Shaun was beaten at the first stop of the Dew Tour in Breckenridge Colorado by Greg Bretz. While this seems to mean that Shaun may in fact be human, it also could just be a ploy to lower expectations leading up to the Olympics whence Shaun will go back to obliterating the competition. In other news, Shaun pulled out of Slopestyle at Breck too. The plot thickens.

Of course Andrew Guan was onsite, check his recap in photos and video here.

X Games Detroit Official Bid Video

10 May 2013, 17.37 | Posted in Competitions, videos | 1 comment »

On one hand this whole Detroit PR campaign is kind of like, enough already, but on the other hand the D was one of America’s greatest cities and is currently in worse shape than most third world metropolises. Having said that, this video, and the campaign to bring X Games to Detroit is one of the raddest things we’ve seen in the industry in a while. It’s like, shit, what do they have to lose, and that’s some fresh American spirit. Put our names on the petition, we want to see X Games Detroit! #XG2D

Rip Curl | “Alive And Kickin” presented by Monster Energy

11 March 2013, 16.53 | Posted in Competitions, snowboarding | 1 comment »

Considering all of Europe was at war only 60 years ago, and North Korea is threatening to bomb the whole world right now, it definitely seems a little crazy that Rip Curl went with a “World War” theme for their “Alive and Kickin” European contest series. But it looks like a rad contest and shit, crazier marketing campaigns have been hatched so fuck it. The “Alive and Kickin” tour still has some stops left and ends at Avioraz, France on April 14, hit the jump for full details.
