Burton Snowboard’s flagship store in NYC reopened last night with a special VIP reception and meet and greet with team riders. Terje Haakonsen, Mikey Rencz, Mark Sollors, and Ethan Deiss came thru to check out the store’s full renovation with an opening suare put on by TheGoodLife! featuring music from Jasmine Solano and DJ Mirandom, brews from PBR and even an authentic NYC hot dog cart. Bringing a vintage Vermont feel using reclaimed resort materials and lots of wood, the new store has about 25% more space and also features a board press along with all of Burton, Gravis, Analog, and Channel Islands’ 2013 product. As if New York City didn’t have enough problems, Mayor Bloomberg has caused another with his quest to outlaw soda in quantities bigger than 16 ounces. While its certainly an example of misguided politics, it has created a lane for soda marketers to have some fun. Just in time for the vote on the soda ban this Thursday, September 13, Mountain Dew and the New York Art Department have joined forces for an outdoor campaign entitled “PROHIBITION: NEW YORK CITY” and are asking people to Instagram it tagged #dewyorkcity. Converse blazed into NYC last weekend for the first ever “City Carnage,” a re-interpretation of their “Coastal Carnage” event series. Tim Brodhagen was there to catch Kenny Anderson, Rune Glifberg, Tom Remillard, Jason Jessee, Sammy Baca, Nick Trapasso, Eli Reed, Mike Anderson, Raymond Molinar and Julian Davidson enjoy the riverside radness of the bowl at Pier 62 skatepark.

NYC and Rio de Janeiro based artist PIXOTE has his first solo show opening in Brooklyn tonight with Agora/Now. The artist, who’s Pixação style has been dominating the five boros for the last three years, and who also contributes art to the Trouble Gang, will have all new works on display at the Trumbull Gallery in Williamsburg until July 27. SHUT NYC Welcomes Pat Hoblin on dose

Opening just in time to service the hordes of skate rats who will be descending on the newly refurbished Nike Skatepark at Coleman Park comes Labor, a new shop on Canal street between Ludlow and Orchard. Hidden beneath a sign for the now defunct Moon Coach, Labor is run by James Rewolinski and carries a nice selection of hard and softgoods with a particular nod to local brand 5boro. In opening up some of their archives from the 60’s Life magazine recently republished som shots from a 1965 feature on skateboarding in NYC despite the visible cues that date the photo, the multicultural component of the NYC scene looks to be reppin as hard as ever. See the whole gallery at Complex.
