11 December 2015, 07.15 | Posted in Interviews, Skateboarding, Uncategorized, Video | Comments Off

Salon des Refuses or “exhibition of rejects”, was an exhibition of creative work that had been rejected by the critics & juries of the Paris Salon. As skaters, we’re no strangers to critique and refusal. Salon des Refusés is an independent skate video by Permanent Distribution employee Leo Banuelos. The DVD features Leo’s friends Nick Zizzo, Mike Magalhaes, Shane Carter, Ian Weisbecker, Joshua Baker, Leo Moreno, Derick Glancy, Cody Wilber, and Josh Miller.

The introduction, featuring the skating of Format Skateboards rider Nick Zizzo has just been published at Permanent.co along with an interview. Read more »

21 November 2011, 22.33 | Posted in Art & Design, Culture, Interviews, Music, Uncategorized | Comments Off

A while ago I hosted a screening for the film An Island, a film by Vincent Moon about the amazing band Efterklang. This was definitely more than a music/video project, it’s an inspiring look at how important sound is to regional cultures. They are now releasing a limited edition DVD/EP designed by Hvass&Hannibal featuring the photography of Antje Taiga Jandrig and a custom-made cover printed by Stumptown Printers in Portland, Oregon.

The DVD release is limited to 5000 copies and they are all individually numbered. The cover holds 5 postcards and a 35 page booklet with lots of photos and background info written by Efterklang. When ordering the DVD you get the new EFTERKLANG EP ‘Live at Roskilde Festival 2010′ as a bonus! An Island is also available digitally after the Pay-What-You-Want model. Available via anisland.cc. Interview Victim: Bobby Puleo

26 January 2011, 02.35 | Posted in Culture, Interviews, Skateboarding, Uncategorized | Comments Off

Mr. Puleo’s site Victim Brand just posted an interesting Bobby Puleo interview conducted by Ricky Oyola. I like Ricky, and I think Puleo’s always had a really creative take on skating. Be forewarned there is a lot of lengthy grumbling in his responses, but you can draw your own conclusions from his interview. However, I will assertively raise a glass of Perrier to this statement, “A lot of people go and film their parts in far off places like China and Europe instead of trying to find their own shit in the places they actually live in or operate in. It seems like a lot of kids just simply don’t use their intellect or imaginations enough any more… There’s so many of the same types of dudes out there. These cookie cutter archetypes that look, dress and all skate the same..”

“Kids need to abandon these large, non skateboarder owned corporations and put their money back into skateboarder owned brands. That said, skateboarder owned brands need to start making better, more fashionable shit if they want to keep a stranglehold on an industry they built. They also need to start empowering their consumers to stay with them and educate them as to why it’s important to buy skateboarder owned shit.” Amen and read on.

The Snowboard Mag recently interviewed Compatriot pro Kevin Jones: “Though the evidence of rockstardom against him is overwhelming — nine X Games medals, Transworld’s “Rider of the Year” three times, and an all-time catalog of video parts with Standard Films — his legacy is much more dynamic than [merely] a list of accolades.” Click here for the full story. Yeah KJ! the Happy Meals are on you next time.
