  2. Well, I don’t think this is the actual state of Galician’s Early Medieval historiography. In fact, all these scholars have studied mostly the big feudal institutions, such as Santiago de Compostela’s archbishopry, benedictian monasteries, and so on. But because the presence of free peasants it’s so overwhelming in the documentation, they have given algo very valuable studies about them, trying to understand why these (proto)state institutions develop in such a society, full of free and landowner peasants. All this people comes from Cortazar’s school (he has been Ph. D. tutor for many of them, in fact). I do believe that in this case we’re talking not about “national” historiographies, but about “theoretical” changes. French historiography has been a real (and most important) influence for this people. and now Escalona, Quirós and all the people around their research groups have taken Wickham as their “guru”. Of course, there are “national perspectives” (for example Anselmo López Carreira), but I don’t believe they are significant in Galicia. socialeum
