highsnobiety - good wood, the art of skateboards
Inspired by the film “Beautiful Losers,” Good Wood showcase 45 artists work on skateboard decks. Notables like Chuck Anderson, Matt Gordon and Leo Espinosa are included. The breadth of artists plays out well in a variety of method. Acrylic, oil, silk screen, and even sculpture are represented.
The exhibition is put together by Andrew Davis, a Detroit based curator. This is his second installation related to Good Wood theme, and first to be mounted at Brooklyn’s Third Ward. Davis provides the decks, artists their vision, and they collectively benefit Stocked Mentoring, a non-profit youth sports organization.
Design Arts Online has a nice interview with Davis, and one of the shows artists John Breiner. Read it here.
