Consisting of a deck, t-shirt, hat, and Lark Mid sneaker, the pack draws its inspiration from vintage airline posters and Hawaiian travel advertisments and is colored with charcoal, burnt red, and orange to symbolize fire, pumice, and lava. Nixon has just dropped a limited edition version of their Lodown tide watch, with a portion of the proceeds going to the Defend Oahu Coalition. Decked in the colors of the Hawaii state flag, the back case is engraved with Defend Oahu’s rally cry “Keep Country COUNTRY!” Available only at select Nixon retailers in Hawaii.

Rad Collector - Eddie Aikau Invitational Recap
The Quiksilver Eddie Aikau Invitational went down in Waimea, Hawaii on Tuesday, 25 years to the day from the first contest dedicated to the memory of one of Hawaii’s most fearless big-wave riders. The 50 foot waves that also showed up for the contest turned it into one of the gnarliest showdowns in recent history and resulted in an amazing 100 point score for both Greg Long and Ramon Navarro (shredding craze above). The 100 pointer put Long on top of Kelly Slater for the win and $55,000 while Navarro’s scored him 5th place and the Monster Drop Award. We have the exclusive first look today at Arnette‘s new limited edition Swinger sunglasses. Available in Hawaii only, the Swinger in Blaze Orange, Sunburst Yellow, and Sky Blue all come tweaked with a “Hawaii” print on the inside temple and will be carried exclusively by on-island shops including Local Motion, T&C Surf Designs, and Hawaiian Island Creations. Sharks Prefer Fish to Surfers

Hawaiian NBC affiliate KHNL had a story this week about how fast Blacktip sharks can accelerate when they are after something and included video that showed two surfers within striking distance. They also included an expert that said that even though they’re equipped with unrivaled killing abilities, a Blacktip has never attacked a human. That’s definitely good to know. Via Boardistan.
