The Norwegians at the helm of the World Snowboard Championships coming up in Oslo are really going for it this year. From a pre party with Turbo Negro in New York City on November 18 to the event itself from February 10-19 2012 to the theme song commissioned by Andrew WK, the entire thing is going to be quite the spectacle. In some news that is sure to be disappointing to everyone from riders to environmentalists to the shred dogs counting on a “Blonde Avalanche” New Year’s party, it’s just been announced that the Oakley Arctic Challenge has been postponed until March. The format change to slopestyle didn’t help things but it seems most likely that humanity’s continued disregard for global warming is the true culprit. The official statement said this:

To protect the partners investments in TAC, the organization decided today
to postpone the event to March. Warmer temperatures than normal in both
November and December has made it impossible to produce enough snow.

Hopefully they are back in business for the new projected date of March 5.

Norway’s crown jewel shred event, The Arctic Challenge, is set to pop off in Oslo on the 2nd and 3rd of January, 2010. Departing from the Quarterpipe format of last year, TAC is going slopestyle this year and they’ve just released some renderings of the course. Designed by Claes Högström with input from Torstein Horgmo and Andreas Wiig, it definitely looks official. Check out the rest of the course after the jump.

WeSC and etnies are combining dark forces to throw what might be Europe’s gnarliest contest: Rock n Bowl. International rippers like Stu Graham, Sam Hitz, Juergen Horwarth, Fredrik Austbø, and Christian Brox will be shredding Dyvekes Bridge in Oslo on Saturday, August 29 while satan worshipping scanners go nuts to Purified in Blood.
