SHUT “Finest” Skateboard

SHUT has a super rad release this week with the “Finest” deck. Designed by Enoch aka Eli Gesner, the board is a “switch symmetrical shape” that bears the weighty inscription “In nineteen hundred and eighty six, dissatisfied with the skateboard products that California was producing for half pipe vert skating, Rodney Smith and Bruno Musso created Shut Skates. In forming Shut Skates Rodney Smith and Bruno Musso changed skateboarding forever by creating New York City’s first skate company and the world’s first 100% street skate company. Rodney is the founder of Shut Skateboards and Zoo York and a NYC skate legend and in this episode some of the original Shut crew describes him and what he meant to many people during the rise of east coast skateboarding.

Vans Syndicate x SHUT Shop Takeover Recap

Vans Syndicate and our fam at SHUT took over the LES on Friday night with the launch party for Rodney Smith’s deck and sneaker pack. Tammany Hall held the event and the place was filled with NYC skate OG’s, industry heads in town for Maloof and of course, sexy ladies. Rodney and SHUT co-owner Adam Schatz both performed live music sets while the crowd enjoyed the open bar. Check out a gallery of photos from our editor Brad Clarke after the jump.

Vans Syndicate x SHUT Shop Takeover

This weekend, just in time for the entire skate industry to drop into NYC for the Maloof Cup, Vans Syndicate is launching a 48 takeover of the SHUT Skate Mechanics shop on Orchard Street in the LES. The takeover will feature an in-store party on Friday and then two days dedicated to Vans Syndicate’s sneakers and deck pack with SHUT founder Rodney Smith. History incarnate yo. The final release from SHUT’s rad summer board collection is this collabo deck with Vans Syndicate. A continuation on the pack that started with the SHUT x Vans NY Skateboarding kicks, the deck is dedicated to the lifelong achievements of SHUT founder and master shaper Rodney Smith. For the occasion Smith designed an 8.25″ old school cruiser that is available in super limited quantities now at SHUT Skate Mechanics. Rad Collector - Deathbowl to Downtown on DVD
Buddy Nichols and Rick Charnoski’s epic telling of the history of New York City street skating has arrived on DVD at Shut Skate Mechanics on Orchard. If you walk in at the right time, you may even be able to score an autograph from Shut Founder Rodney Smith, who’s known to be on premises from time to time. Here’s what he said about the occasion. “Its a monumental event. NYC and the entire East Coast is now documented in the tablets of skateboarding history. Recorded and un-leashed in one fell swoop! Bravo Rick and Buddy!” Not surprisingly, copies are already flying off the shelf. A couple more images of Shut’s shipment after the jump.
